Field Trips

Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park provides curriculum-based programing for students from Kindergarten through High School. At a minimum, all education programs are an hour long, but rangers can facilitate 90-minute-long programs for students at and above the Junior High level.

Things To Know

  • Reservations must be made at least two weeks prior to your proposed visit.
  • We can accommodate up to 70 students per visit.
  • One adult chaperone is required for every ten students.
  • Chaperones are required to maintain control of their group during their visit.
  • Larger groups (above 35) may be divided into two or more groups.
  • No food or drinks in the building. If you are planning on eating lunch during your visit, we have picnic tables outside on the south side of the building or Cushinberry Park is located across the parking.
  • Arriving late may cause your program to be shortened or canceled.

Reservations for Field Trips to the Park

Reservations can be made by email, or phone at 785-354-4273. If calling or emailing, the staff at Brown v. Board of Education NHP will need to know:

  • Date of the visit.
  • Time of the visit.
  • The number of students and adults in the group.
  • Grade level of the students.
  • Include any special requests or need for accommodations

A staff member will work with you to help accommodate your field trip request or propose other dates and times. Once confirmed, staff will send a written confirmation of the date and time of your field trip.

Transportation Grants

Brown v. Board of Education NHP does not provide transportation, but we can provide funding to schools who visit the park. Funding is available for Title 1 schools, Topeka Public Schools, and schools with other financial needs. If approved, the park will reimburse the school for its transportation costs. We cannot provide funding prior to the visit. Additionally, the school or the transportation provider must accept credit card payments. Reimbursements from Brown v. Board of Education NHS are provided by credit card payment. We will need an invoice of the actual transportation cost prior to providing the reimbursement.
