Work crews on the Blue Ridge Parkway began assessment and cleanup efforts today along the previously closed stretch of Parkway from MP 165 in Virginia south through North Carolina to Milepost 469. Crews found numerous downed trees and debris covered roads; and across this section high wind, fog and continually falling debris made work hazardous. Currently, many areas remain impassable. Expected improving weather conditions tomorrow will be more favorable for crews and equipment to conduct removal work. As soon as impacted sections are safe for normal traffic, they will reopen. As a result, delayed opening of facilities tomorrow is also anticipated. This includes all areas in the Asheville corridor. We will provide updates in the morning as they are available.
