INSIDE THE INVADER: Lionfish Dissection Teacher Workshop

Biscayne National Park is excited to launch a brand new teacher workshop that is aimed at taking a look "inside" a marine invader. Biscayne will work with 7th through 12th grade science teachers to help raise awareness about a serious problem affecting our protected and fragile marine ecosystem.

Participating teachers will gain in-depth knowledge regarding the Indo-Pacific Lionfish and practice how to properly handle and dissect a lionfish specimen with students. Teachers will also learn how to encourage students to become Citizen Scientists by gathering data for park studies. Sample lesson activity will be provided as well as lionfish specimens that can be taken back with teachers to be dissected in the classroom with their students.

Workshops will be conducted on:

Friday October 24, 2014

Friday January 16, 2015

Saturday April 3, 2015

Please take look at the Lionfish Workshop Teacher Guide for further information about the workshop and example lesson plans.

Professional Development credits are available through Miami-Dade County school district.
