From December 4 through February 26 the Miami Blue Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association will have photos of the winged jewels of the swamp, butterflies native to Big Cypress, on display at the Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center and the Oasis Visitor Center. This exhibit provides beautiful photography along with useful information on butterfly conservation and protection.

The exhibit is made possible through a grant from the South Florida National Parks Trust and features photography by Jamie Bernard, Lisa Blackwelder, Linda Cooper, Ron Nuehring, Bill Perry, Hank Poor, Holly Salvato, Jim Spencer, Mickey Wheeler and Michelle Wisniewski.

The exhibit will be highlighted on December 11 when the National Park Service will provide special programs on butterflies and walks searching for butterfly species. Programs will be presented at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at both centers.

The Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center is located at 33000 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, FL; the Oasis Visitor Center is at 52105 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, FL. Both are opened from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

For more information on the exhibit, related activities on December 11 and other ranger-led activities within Big Cypress National Preserve call the Oasis Visitor Center at 239-695-1201. For information on other available programs within the Preserve click here.
