Stars, Comets & Nebulas, Oh My! An Introduction to Amateur Astronomy
Contact: Lisa Andrews, 239-695-1164
On Friday, March 15, at 6:00 pm come join us as we enjoy the night sky of Big Cypress National Preserve. Park rangers will first lead an indoor presentation introducing night sky features and the lore that surrounds them. We'll then move outside to view the universe through a telescope and have a chance to see Comet PANSTARRS as it travels by our planet. Big Cypress National Preserve is known as a great place for star gazing. The night sky at the Preserve doesn't have the light pollution that neighboring cities have. This will be the third star program offered this season.
We recommended that you bring a lawn chair/blanket, long-sleeves, pants, bug spray, flashlight (red light is best). Do you have a telescope or binoculars? Bring them, but they aren't required.
If interested, meet us at the Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center (located between mile markers 73 & 74 on highway 41).
