OCHOPEE – Big Cypress National Preserve is pleased to reopen Midway Campground on Friday, December 1st to campers on a first-come first-served basis. Online and advance reservations will be available on December 8th through https://www.recreation.gov/.

Improving resource conditions have also lead to reopening Zone 3 of the Stairsteps Unit to recreational use, including hunting.  While deer hunting will remain closed in Zone 4 of the Stairsteps Unit, it will reopen to other hunting access and recreational use. Access will reopen on Friday, December 1st at sunrise.

Mitchell’s Landing and Pinecrest, Campgrounds will remain closed due to higher than normal ground water levels. Loop Road will remain closed to all non-local and through traffic due to visitor safety and resource protection concerns. Persistent flowing water on the road surface makes through traffic unsafe. Staff will continue to update signs along the roadway and reopen by press release as conditions allow. Additional updates and changes in closures will be provided by press release.
