The National Park Service is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the rehabilitation and repair of approximately 16.5 miles of Loop Road to improve drainage, replace pavement, and repair damage caused by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Work will include replacing and installing additional culverts, raising some portions of the road, and replacing existing pavement. There will be no paving of gravel sections or changes in road width. Additional details can be found here.
As part of the EA scoping process, we are soliciting your comments concerning issues and alternatives you would like us to consider and your rationale for suggesting they be analyzed. Please submit your comments by March 25, 2010, either online at the above website or by mailing to Superintendent, Big Cypress National Preserve, 33100 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, Florida 34141-1000.
