The National Park Service (NPS) has recently completed preparation of a Final Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for implementation of a Commercial Service Plan in Big Cypress National Preserve. The final draft of the plan analyzes the effects of two action alternatives and a no-action alternative. The document is available for a final 30 day public comment period through January 24, 2009.

If you are interested in commenting on this Final Draft Commercial Services Plan, the EA can be viewed and commented upon at the NPS' Planning, Environment and Public Comment website by clicking here. If you have questions, you may contact Christine Clark, Management Assistant at 239-695-1153, or

This Final Draft Commercial Services Plan document was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1500-1508, Department of the Interior Departmental Manual 516, and NPS Director’s Order No. 12 and Handbook. The EA analyzes the effects of three alternatives.

Once the plan is finalized and approved commercial services that meet guidelines within the preferred alternative will be analyzed as they are requested. If the requested service is deemed necessary and appropriate, and all other guidelines outlined in the plan are met, a permit to provide the commercial service would be granted. All facilities would be developed to be consistent with the management zone prescriptions established in the General Management Plan and other planning documents for the Preserve.
