On behalf of the National Park Service, you are cordially invited to the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the construction of Yellowtail Dam. Please join us on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Yellowtail Dam Visitor Center from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. to commemorate this special event.

Enjoy refreshments, share stories, and watch historic film footage of river trips down the Bighorn before the waterway was dammed. In addition, University of Montana historians will be onsite to speak with those who helped make history in and around the Bighorn Canyon area during the 1960’s.

Two graduate students, Jonathan Hall and Shawn Bailey, are interested in learning your views on the impact of Yellowtail Dam on the people and places surrounding the canyon. You will not want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to share your experiences regarding the dam’s construction. These stories will become part of a historical record that aims to tell this story to future generations.

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear “behind-the-scene” accounts of what it was like to live and work in this area before, during, and after the building of the dam. If you have any photos or other items to add to the historic record we would love to have you share them with us.

For more information concerning this event please contact the Yellowtail Dam Visitor Center at 406-666-3218, or the Afterbay Contact Station at 406-666-2452, or visit our website at
