Some people are frightened by cemeteries, others find them interesting.  No matter what your take is on the subject, the truth is that they tell a story about an area and the people that lived there.  Bighorn Canyon invites visitors to look around the cemetery and listen to the stories told by the headstones.  We ask people to remember this is a place that we all need to be respectful of, after all these are peoples Mothers, Fathers, Sisters and Brothers.

Between Halloween and November 4, 2009, someone entered the Kane Cemetery and maliciously vandalized thirteen grave sites.  An additional nine sites were vandalized between the hours of 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on November 13, 2009. The damage ranged from pushing over headstones to using spray paint on monuments to breaking several monuments into pieces.  The Park Service is investigating this crime against the history of our community and needs your help.

If you have any knowledge or information about the vandalism at the Kane Cemetery, please contact Pete Sawtell or Jessica Korhut at 307-548-5421.  You may also stop in the Visitor Center in Lovell, Wyoming with your information.
