BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK, INTERIOR, S.D.  -- A three-way land exchange was completed between the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, Badlands National Park, and local rancher Donald Kelly.  The equal value land exchange resulted in the conveyance of 633 acres of National Grasslands land to Mr. Kelly in exchange for 667 acres of private land located within the Badlands National Park (BNP).  The land exchange eliminates a private inholding within the existing boundary of BNP, while consolidating Kelly's ranch holdings outside of the park.

This land exchange benefits the public by increasing wildlife viewing, photographic and hiking opportunities for park visitors along BNP's Sage Creek Rim Road and Loop 240 at the Pinnacles entrance station near Wall, SD.  The property consolidation improves vegetation and habitat management efficiencies for all parties
