While the park continues to seek and gather comments on a plan to place bison on the South Unit of Badlands National Park, in lieu of open houses, the comment period for scoping has been extended to June 6, 2014. Open houses planned for the rest of this week have been cancelled.
The South Unit consists of approximately 133,300 acres of land located entirely within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, home of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.Consultation and coordination with the tribe and the public are vitally important throughout the planning process. The public is invited to comment on the proposed bison reintroduction on-line at: go.nps.gov/bisoncomments
Written comments can be submitted to:

Comment forms will also be available at public facilities such as libraries and tribal offices near the park.
