BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK, INTERIOR, S.D. — Badlands National Park Superintendent Eric Brunnemann announced today that the National Park Service and Oglala Sioux Tribe will be holding public open houses during the week of April 21 to take comments on proposed concepts for reintroduction and management of bison at the South Unit of Badlands National Park. The meetings are part of the process of creating an Environmental Assessment for the project, which is being conducted cooperatively by the National Park Service, Oglala Sioux Tribe, and Bureau of Indian Affairs.

When completed, the Bison Reintroduction and Management Plan/Environmental Assessment will guide National Park Service (NPS) managers in protecting resources while carrying out essential management of bison in the South Unit. The goals and strategies identified in the plan will help fulfill the mission of the National Park Service and Oglala Sioux Tribe.

There are several opportunities for the public to provide comments and suggestions for the plan over the next 30 days. You may attend and provide comments at public meetings (see dates, locations, and times in this article), submit comments through the website listed below, or mail them to the park. Your views will be carefully considered by the project planning team.

The comment period begins on April 14and ends on May 23. Duringthat time, draft concepts will be posted for review and comment at the following website:
