Administrative History: Women's History Initiative

This is a brief administrative history of the Women's History Initiative.

In May 2012, then Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, introduced a new Secretarial initiative focusing on women's history.

The National Park Service and the National Collaborative for Women's History Sites (NCWHS) co-sponsored a workshop in December 2012 on "Telling the Whole Story: Women and the Making of the United States." Participants discussed current efforts in national parks and communities to 1) improve the interpretation of women's history; and 2) to preserve significant associted historic places.
