Experience the Holidays in Appomattox

Park Partners with Community to Host Holiday Event

Appomattox, Va. - Join us in historic downtown Appomattox on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10a.m. – 6 p.m. for a day filled with holiday festivities, entertainment, and eats with our first annual Experience the Holidays celebration. This event is being hosted by the newly formed Appomattox Tourism Committee with special efforts from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park (supported by the Appomattox 1865 Foundation), American Civil War Museum-Appomattox, Wolfbane Productions, Eastern National, Appomattox Inn and Suites, Appomattox Christian Academy, Babcock House, Appomattox County Public Library, Town of Appomattox, Appomattox County, Appomattox Chamber of Commerce, and Appomattox Vintage and Artisan Market.

Experience a Civil War Christmas with a visit to the Courthouse Square where you can shop for unique gifts and stocking stuffers that highlight our region's history. Children can paint soldiers, create period ornaments and decorate a tree, play with 19th Century toys and games, and learn how the holiday was celebrated more than 150 years ago. Wander through the Merry Market in Courtland Field for an eclectic mix of vintage, local artisans, and live entertainment. Next, meet some of your favorite Holiday characters in Abbitt Park for pictures and a Candy Land Village—including Buddy the Elf, Jack Skellington, Anna & Elsa, and of course, Santa Clause. Finally, Main Street will be transformed into Dr. Seuss’s Whoville! Meet the Grinch, Cindy Lou, and the Mayor while you explore, shop, and eat local.

Come hungry, because we have lots of delicious food offerings from Mama Crockett's Cider Donuts, No Butts About It BBQ and Catering, Brother Jake's Brick Oven Creations, Kettle Corn & Funnel Cakes with C & C Catering, and Stew Men. Plus, our local, downtown restaurants will be serving up your favorites at Grannie Bee’s, Baines Books and Coffee, Rail Yard, Mamma Terezinha’s Pizza, and Babcock House.
