Throughout 2016, the National Park Service will commemorate its centennial anniversary with numerous special events at over 400 sites. One of the ways that Antietam National Battlefield plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary is to invite people to come out and hike sixteen miles at the park in 2016 -- 16 in 2016.
Antietam has almost 13 miles of trails for visitors to explore on your own. In addition, this spring park rangers will offer guided hikes every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. that will count toward the 16 mile goal, including an all day hike on May 1.
To encourage people to get out and hike, we are offering a special NPS Centennial pin to the first 100 people that complete 16 miles at the park. Just download a trail checklist and bring it to the front desk when you come out and hike and have a park ranger initial and date the sheet.
We look forward to seeing you out, hiking Antietam.
