On Saturday, March 28, 2015, volunteers from around the country will team up with the Civil War Trust (CWT) to help clean and restore America’s historic Civil War battlefields, cemeteries and shrines. The nationwide effort—dubbed Park Day—will include nearly 80 historic sites in 24 states.
Antietam National Battlefield is again participating in this year’s Park Day and volunteers are needed to help with two projects. One project will be sprucing up the Antietam National Cemetery and the Mumma family cemetery. The second project will consist of preparing the Rohrbach Group Campground for the upcoming camping season.
The cemetery cleanup is limited to 40 participants and the campground project is limited to 30 participants. Volunteers must pre-register by contacting the respective project leader. Antietam National Battlefield will provide tools. Participants are asked to dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and wear sturdy shoes or boots. In addition, leather work gloves are strongly recommended. For more information and to pre-register, please contact either Debbie Cohen at 301-432-2243 ext. 13 or e-mail us or Rick Schriever at 301-432-6035 or e-mail us.
