American Memorial Park will host the annual Ridge to Reef Summer Camp in Garapan. The one-week long session will be held from August 18-22, 2014. This free dynamic program introduces a fun, safe, and exciting way to understand the connection between Saipan's watershed and precious marine resources. Participants will learn to become stewards of our park and our environment.
The camp is open to youth, ages 10 and 11 years old. Ridge to Reef campers will engage in an exciting array of hands-on activities designed to educate participants about threats to the marine ecosystem, as well as solutions to the issues. Campers will learn how their everyday actions affect the environment; this will be accomplished through daily fun-filled experiences that include puzzles, games, snorkeling, hiking, and guest speakers.
Youth, ages 14, 15, and 16 years old are eligible to apply for the Ridge to Reef Mentor Program. During a two day training session on August 14 and 15, 2014, mentors will have the opportunity to learn from park rangers, snorkel, engage in discussions about conservation, and gain a greater awareness of the importance of stewardship in our community. From August 18-22, Ridge to Reef mentors will serve as camp leaders for younger campers, promote water safety, and be positive role models.
Be a part of this exciting FREE educational program that encourages youth to become in tune with the outdoors at their national park!
