Robert Ingram signed up for work with Siems Drake Puget Sound Construction and landed in Dutch Harbor where he worked on building the military installation while living on board the grounded steamship Northwestern. He survived the bombing of Dutch Harbor and the chaos that ensued immediately following the attack. When civilian workers were replaced in the Aleutians with Seabees Bob joined the US Navy and built prostheses for men injured in the war.
