Ranger Guss Says

Ranger Gus is a mascot for the Agate Fossil Beds rangers.

Here are a few guidelines for visitors coming to Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.

  • Visitor Center is 3 miles from Highway 29.
  • Park is open from dawn till dusk, visitor center is open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the winter or 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. in the summer.
  • There is limited cell phone coverage in and around the park.
  • Temperatures may be hot in the summer so be prepared by bringing water and remember to fill your car with gas before leaving Harrison or Mitchell on Hwy.29.
  • Temperatures may be extremely cold in the winter so be sure to have a winter driving kit in your vehicle and remember to fill your car with gas before leaving Harrison or Mitchell on Hwy.29..
  • There is no camping or overnight parking at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.
  • All land outside of the park is privately owned, please respect the landowners.
  • Please pick up and dispose of your trash.
  • Beware of rattlesnakes.
  • There is a soda pop machine in the lobby of the visitor center as well as a water bottle filling station.
