Baker Island gives us a glimpse as to what island life was like during the 19th century. There are many structures and remnants of structures on the island that tell of the Gilley family's 123 years of continuous habitation on the island as well as an operational lighthouse. Baker Island also provides visitors with great views of Mount Desert Island and striking ocean scenery.
If you are interested in actually visiting Baker Island, Acadia National Park offers a Baker Island Cruise throughout the summer season. This 4½-hour cruise takes you ashore Baker Island to discover the island's unique natural and cultural history on a moderate hike with a ranger. See Acadia's schedule of events for more information.
