Civil War Sites Advisory Commission (CWSAC)

Currently ABPP's financial and technical assistance is primarily targeted at the fifty Civil War battlefields identified by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission (CWSAC) as the top priorities for preservation action. In 1990, Congress appointed the commission to identify the most important and most threatened Civil War battlefields in the country and to provide recommendations for their preservation. The commission studied 384 sites of major armed conflict during the Civil War and listed fifty Priority I battlefields having the most urgent need for preservation.

The commission's findings are available in its Report on the Nation's Civil War Battlefields. The CWSAC sunset in 1993.
