First illuminated in 1838, Ned Point Light (or Ned's Point Light) is located in Mattapoisett at the northeast side of the entrance to Mattapoisett Harbor from Buzzards Bay. The 39-foot tall stone tower, topped by a fifth-order lantern (the second to occupy the top of the tower), rests on a circular concrete foundation. A doorway pierces the tower wall at the base. Embedded in the inner tower wall without the use of mortar, are 32 cantilevered granite stairs that ascend to the lantern. The light station was automated and unmanned in 1923.

The wood-frame keeper's house (the second house on the station) was subsequently removed and floated across Buzzard's Bay by barge to Wing's Neck Light Station in Pocasset. The U.S. Coast Guard deactivated Ned Point Light in 1952. The entire site, except for the tower, was sold to the Town of Mattapoisett in 1958, which developed the land as a park. The light was reactivated in 1961 and continues to operate as an active aid to navigation. The local Coast Guard Flotilla "adopted" the lighthouse in 1993 and conducted renovations shortly thereafter.

Ned Point Light is located in Veteran's Memorial Park at the end of Ned's Point Rd. in Mattapoisett. Owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and managed by the Town of Mattapoisett, Ned Point Light Station is open to the public on Thursdays in July and August from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The park grounds are open to the public daily. For further information email nedspoint@comcast.net.
