Once a small agricultural community, Pasadena experienced a building boom from 1886-1888. The development of commercial buildings along Colorado Boulevard cemented the importance of the route as the principal axis through town and the Rose Parade route. The Old Pasadena Historic District represents the focus of commerce and industry in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. During the 1920s the Spanish Colonial Revival style of architecture gained popularity throughout California and became symbolic of Pasadena's "Golden Age" of prosperity. In 1929 Colorado Boulevard was widened 14' on each side. New facades were built for all the buildings facing Colorado and the majority reflected the Spanish Colonial Revival styles. The Old Pasadena Historic District is roughly bounded by Pasadena, Fair Oaks, and Raymond aves., the Arroyo Prkwy., Del Mar Blvd., and Corson St., in Pasadena.
