Artist Statement: Through a consistent and focused observation of a location over time, I am immersed in the atmosphere and create works infused with color and light. Pieces created in the studio will document specific areas of the landscape at different moments throughout the day. How the elements of illumination and time affect a viewer's experience of their surroundings is an important feature in my work. Through my travels I have come to better understand the unique terrain of different landscapes and how light works in developing our perceptions. As a painter I derive inspiration from the environment. By depicting its value to others we can continue to cherish what is left of our diverse ecosystems. As an artist I have the opportunity to record these remaining places in a manner distinctive to my experience. This process advances the artistic language of my work as well as expands the conversation and consideration for the wild among my viewers. |
