Zion National Park Superintendent Jock Whitworth announces the completion of the Backcountry Management Plan and the signing of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) by the National Park Service Intermountain Regional Director.

The Backcountry Management Plan provides direction for the National Park Service to manage over 145,000 acres of backcountry within Zion. Most of these lands are within recommended wilderness and must be managed to protect wilderness characteristics and values. The plan offers an array of backcountry recreational opportunities while recognizing and protecting the cultural and natural resources values for which Zion was designated.

To obtain a copy of the Backcountry Management Plan and FONSI, visit the National Park Planning website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov. For more information please contact Ray O’Neil, Plateau District Ranger, at (435) 772-7823 or ray_o’neil@nps.gov.
