Curriculum-Based Educational Programs
•Zion National Park offers curriculum-based in-class outreach programs during the school year. The programs are offered to 3rd - 5th grade classes in Washington County elementary schools or schools within a 50-mile radius of the park. All of our outreach education programs incorporate Utah state core curriculum standards as well as park themes.

Spring Outreach - February, March and April
•The Spring Outreach Program will be offered from February to April for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.

Third Grade - The Habitat Puzzle
Like a puzzle, the elements needed for a healthy habitat must fit together in perfect arrangement. Using Zion National Park's habitats as examples, students will learn how living and nonliving members of an environment work together to form a community in which plants/animals live. Rangers will help students explore what happens when changes occur. Be prepared for illustrated discussion, hands on activities and games. (1 hour)

Fourth Grade - Surviving in Zion
Due to it's unique landforms and variation in elevation, Zion National Park has representations of many of the ecosystems found in Utah. Through discussion, illustrations, games or hands on activities, students will learn some of the common animals/plants that have special adaptations to survive in Zion's wetlands, deserts, and forests. (1 hour)

Fifth Grade - Geology: The Destruction Game
One could argue that geologic processes are a cycle of destruction. That is, landscapes are continually being torn apart and reshaped. Zion is a tremendous example of Earth's constantly changing surface. In this program, Rangers will use illustrations, discussion, and activities to show how geological processes such as sedimentation, uplift, and erosion shape Zion and much of southern Utah (1 hour)

•The Zion Natural History Association provides additional funding for the Zion Outreach Program.
