Permit System Changes – 2006

Several changes have been made to Zion’s on-line permit and reservation systems. The changes are intended to make the system more user friendly.

- Express permit members now are only required to register for the express system one time every three calendar years. Visitors who signed up for the system in 2005 will not have to sign up again until 2008. Visitors who sign up in 2006 will not have to sign up again until 2009. The express permit system allows visitors to obtain backcountry permits on-line. Prior to 2006, express permit members were required to sign up every calendar year. It is not necessary to be a member of the system to obtain backcountry permits.

- Several new canyoneering areas as well as rock climbing routes have been added to the on-line reservations system. The newly added areas will also be available for on-line permits through the express permit system. Added canyoneering routes include; Englestead Canyon, Heaps Canyon, Imlay Canyon, and Wylie Canyon. Newly added climbing routes include Desert Shield, Monkeyfinger, and Tricks of the Trade.
