Snowboarders Found in Yosemite National Park
Three snowboarders, missing since Monday afternoon, were located by helicopter spotters at around 2:00pm near the South Fork of the Merced River. All three were responsive and walked to the helicopter on their own. Their condition will be further assessed as they come out.
A total of over 65 Search and Rescue personnel from Yosemite National Park and Mariposa County have been searching the area since yesterday.
Did You Know?
In Wawona and downstream, the South Fork Merced River provides habitat for a rare plant, the Sierra sweet bay (Myrica hartwegii). This special status shrub is found in only five Sierra Nevada counties. In Yosemite, it occurs exclusively on sand bars and river banks along the South Fork Merced River downstream from Wawona and on Big Creek.
