National Park Service Yellowstone National Park ---------------------------------------------------- Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspections Planned Inspections of commercial vehicles will be conducted this week in Yellowstone National Park. Park rangers and the Wyoming Highway Patrol will assist the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in conducting full-level inspections at undisclosed locations in Yellowstone. The inspections, which will focus primarily on commercial buses and trucks, will take place on September 15 and 16. These inspections are designed to ensure the safe operation of these large commercial vehicles, which helps protect visitors, park employees, and park resources from potential mishaps. Both the driver and the commercial vehicle are evaluated, in order to assure full compliance with federal regulations that govern commercial vehicles. This is the 12th year of the interagency inspection program. It has resulted in a significant decrease in the most serious "out-of-service" violations which require that either a commercial vehicle or a commercial driver be taken off the road due to serious mechanical or driver-specific violations. - www.nps.gov/yell - |
