N-CGSAP Rules and Regulations

The Non-commercially Guided Snowmobile Access Program (N-CGSAP) will permit authorized parties to enter Yellowstone National Park without the presence of a commercial guide, and to instead travel with a non-commercial guide. Permits will be allocated via lottery and then on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program will allow up to four non-commercially guided groups – with up to 5 snowmobiles per group – to enter the park daily, one group event per entrance.

Before entering the park, all non-commercial groups must have a Non-commercially Guided Snowmobile Access Permit and have Best Available Technology (BAT) snowmobiles.

All snowmobile operators in the group must have successfully completed the Yellowstone Snowmobile Education Certification Program and have a valid driver's license.

The non-commercial guide is responsible for managing his or her trip and the actions of all trip participants.

The N-CGSAP was authorized by the final Winter Use Rule, 36 CFR 7.13.

Non-commercially guided groups must obey all park rules and regulations, including:

• All snowmobiles must be certified BAT or NewBAT
• Groups must check in at the appropriate entrance station before 4pm on the first day of their trip. Please call ahead to schedule this check-in.
• The group leader (permit holder) must keep a copy of their signed permit with them at all times.
• Stay on groomed roads and parking areas
• Obey all posted speed limits
• Do not drink and drive (Group leaders have lower blood alcohol level limits of .04%. All other operators must be under .08%)
• No open alcoholic containers on snowmobiles
• Do not chase or harass wildlife
• All groups must stay together, within 1/3 mile of the lead snowmobile
• All groups must display a N-CGSAP placard
• Towing sleds is allowed with a rigid tow bar, but no people can be on the sleds
• Pets are not allowed into the park through this program
