Update -- The Little Joe fire originating outside Yellowstone National Park boundaries burned into the park today. It was estimated that 100 acres inside the park boundary were burned. No updated map information is yet available as suppression forces continue attempts at control.

Update 27 August -- Mon

A human-caused fire originating outside and burning within park boundaries.  There was no major fire spread observed during today’s burn period, but some fire growth was observed overnight. Suppression actions continued with holding actions taking place throughout the day. Burnout operations were being considered to aid with containment/control. The fire was mapped at 700 acres, with 130 of that total occurring within the park.

Update 28 August -- Tues

Suppression actions contributed to holding the fire in check today. Some heat was observed on the southwest flank near Deaf Jim knob, and was being worked regularly with helicopter bucket drops. The ridgetop is literally painted red from slurry drops as part of the holding actions. Burnout operations on the east side were initiated today, and appear to have been successful. Otherwise, the remainder of the fire stayed within control lines. The fire was mapped at 726 acres, with  110 inside park boundaries. The National Park Service Deaf Jim Cabin was lost in the fire.

Update 30 August -- Thurs

On the Little Joe fire, pockets of heat were observed on the east side of Deaf Jim Knob. Otherwise, little activity was observed. Scattered spots were smoking on the steep slopes inside the park boundary. The latest map puts the fire at 789 acres.

Update 3 September -- Mon

The current size 860 acres. Fire activity was minimal.

Update 5 September -- Wed

No smokes were observed as holding/fireline rehabilitation continues. The fire remains at 860 acres.
