MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – The Bighorn Pass Trail Bridge over the Gallatin River is available for use. The bridge is roughly a half mile from the Bighorn Pass Trailhead, near US-191, in the Northwestern section of the park.

Trail crew removed the damaged bridge in 2014 because of unsafe conditions for hikers and skiers. Thereafter, they built a new bridge in the same location to provide for safe, year-round access to the popular trail. The bridge was reopened for public use in October 2016.

Based on public feedback and analysis of the area’s natural resources, managers determined the replacement of the bridge was the best alternative to protect resources and provide for visitor use and safety.

Editor’s Note: A photo of the bridge is available on our Flickr site.
