Yellowstone To Issue 2015 Firewood Collection Permits

Yellowstone National Park will be accepting public requests for those interested in possibly receiving a firewood collection permit from the National Park Service during 2015.

Excess firewood is periodically available in the park for a variety of reasons, including wildland fire fuel mitigation, wind events, construction projects, or hazard tree removal.

Individuals interested in applying for a permit are asked to phone (307) 344-2116 beginning at 1201 AM Friday April 10 through Sunday April 12 and leave their name and daytime telephone number. Permits will be issued in the order phone calls are received. Successful applicants will be contacted as wood becomes available throughout the year.

After Sunday April 12 names will only be accepted Monday-Friday from 8 AM-5 PM by calling (307) 344-2107.

Firewood permits cost $25 and allow the taking of up to three cords of wood (there is no guarantee that there will be three cords available for each permittee). Specific site guidelines and regulations, including hours and dates of collection, will be explained at the time the permit is issued.

For further information please call the Visitor Services Office at (307) 344-2107.
