Opening of Norris Campground Delayed

Image of snow in campground

Due to the heaviest snowfall in a decade, the opening of Norris Campground in Yellowstone National Park will be delayed.

Norris Campground, which was scheduled to open on Friday, May 16, has current snow depths of 18 to 24 inches, making the campground inaccessible to campers.
Individual sites at Norris will open intermittently as the snow melts and conditions allow, with all sites expected to open in approximately two weeks. Current information on the status of the campground will be posted at http://www.nps.gov/yell/conditions.htm.

Frontcountry camping is currently available at Madison and Mammoth. The Tower Fall Campground and the Fishing Bridge RV Park will open this Friday with staggered opening dates for the remaining campgrounds between the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and June 21. Reservations for the Madison Campground and Fishing Bridge RV Park can be made by calling (307) 344-7311. Camping at Mammoth and Tower Fall is on a first-come, first-served basis. To check the status of campground openings in the park call (307) 344-2114 or visit http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/camping-in-yellowstone.htm.
For information on the status of travel within the park, call the 24-hour road report hotline at (307) 344-2117.
