Yellowstone to Lift Fire Restrictions

Recent rainfall and cooler temperatures will allow for fire restrictions to be lifted in Yellowstone National Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. this evening.

The temporary fire restrictions were put into place to protect people, property and the area’s natural resources due to fire activity and hot dry conditions in the park. These restrictions could again be put into effect should hot, dry weather conditions resume, increasing fire danger.

Open fires in both the backcountry and frontcountry of the park are permitted only in established fire rings or grates, and must be fully extinguished before leaving the site. Self-contained, gas -burning camp stoves and lanterns are also permitted.

Smoking is prohibited in all thermal areas.
