  • Wrangell-St. Elias Visitor Center Switching to Fall Hours on Sept. 20th

    Wrangell-St Elias's main visitor center, located near Copper Center, AK, is on fall hours starting September 20th. The fall hours of operation are Mon.-Fri. 9:00 am-4:00 pm, closed on federal holidays.

News Release Date: October 21, 2013

Copper Center, AK -- The Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitor Center in Copper Center will be closed for the winter beginning November 1.The Alaska Geographic Bookstore located inside the visitor center will close on October 30. The visitor center and bookstore will reopen April 1, 2014.

The Nabesna River was named in 1898 by USGS employees W. J. Peters and A. H. Brooks. The name is derived from the local native name for the Upper Tanana River.
