Copper Center, AK -- Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve will hold 2 public hearings on
proposed regulations and an environmental assessment related to sport hunting in ALaska's national preserves as follows:

November 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wrangell-St. Elias NPP Visitor Center in Copper Center, and

November 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tok School.

The proposals include prohibitions on taking wolf and coyote pups and adults
in early summer when they den and their pelts have little commercial value; the
taking of brown bears over bait stations; and the use of artificial light to
take black bear cubs and sows with cubs at dens. Other procedural changes and
wildlife harvest related changes are also proposed. The proposed rule would not
restrict federal subsistence hunting on NPS managed lands.

For additional information about the hearings, please call Barbara Cellarius
at 907-822-7236 or see nps.gov/akso/management/regulations.cfm.
