NPS Honors Longtime Volunteer Fred Hattman

Outer Banks Group Superintendent Barclay Trimble recently recognized and honored Fred Hattman for his tremendous dedication and over 5,600 hours of service to Wright Brothers National Memorial.Since 2006 Hattman has shared his love and enthusiasm of aviation history while working as a volunteer for the National Park Service inspiring thousands of park visitors every year.

Fred and his wife Ronnie moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina from New Milford, CT in 2001 after retiring from the Mosler Safe Company.They had vacationed on the Outer Banks since the early 1970's and fell in love with the area's natural beauty and rich cultural history.Fred is a veteran who served in the United States Air Force and began volunteering at Wright Brothers National Memorial in 2006.

Park Superintendent Trimble stated, "I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Fred for the incredible accomplishment and for all the many friends made on behalf of the National Park Service.Fred's years of service have made a difference in so many ways to park visitors who come to enjoy this special place."When asked why Hattman contributes so much time to the park, Fred stated, "I love the story of the Wright brothers and meeting and greeting visitors from all over the United States and around the world makes for a great day for me."
