Acting Superintendent Darrell Echols announced today that on Saturday, September 29, 2012, Wright Brothers National Memorial will celebrate National Public Lands Day by offering free admission to park visitors.

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the largest, hands-on volunteer effort in the United States designed to improve and enhance public lands for all Americans to enjoy.NPLD is supported by several Federal land management agencies and is supported nationally and locally by agency partner organizations.The annual event encourages everyone to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.

More than 170,000 people will volunteer across the country to build trails, plant trees, paint signs, remove trash and invasive plants, and restore water resources.Volunteer's one-day efforts will equal more than $15 million in improvements to public lands.To learn more about National Public Lands Day you can visit their website at www.publiclandsday.org.

The staff at Wright Brothers National Memorial, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Cape Hatteras National Seashore encourage the park's friends, neighbors and visitors to take advantage of this annual interagency "fee free" day by getting reacquainted with their local national parks.While entrance fees at Wright Brothers NM for passengers in both private and commercial vehicles will be waived, recreation "user fees" such as camping fees and lighthouse climbing fees will not be waived.
