National History Day Contest Students Select Wright Brothers

Every year more than a half a million students participate in the National History Day contest.Established in 1974, the annual National History Day competition provides students with opportunities to learn about history and develop research, thinking, and communication skills.

Each year students from around the country select the Wright brothers as their History Day project theme.This year, three students from Skowhegan Middle School in Maine; Ben Voter, Josh Emery, and Trae Brooks, won second place in the State of Maine Junior Division Group Documentary Category for their documentary titled, "The Life of Orville and Wilbur Wright: The Spark of the Aerial Age".

Their outstanding documentary on the life of Wilbur and Orville Wright was created with the help of Wright Brothers National Memorial Park Ranger Darrell Collins.Ranger Collins spent many hours doing phone interviews and corresponded regularly with the students via email.

These students won in their category at the Maine National History Day competition held at the University of Maine in Augusta, ME.They will soon travel to the National History Day Competitions in Washington DC were they will compete with students from around the United States.
