Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts
Park Anniversary

Come celebrate Wolf Trap's anniversary on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Ranger-led activities, volunteer opportunities, and festivities will be offered throughout the day. All activities are free.

Wolf Trap Farm Park (the park's original name) was created by an act of legislation on October 15, 1966 - this year, Wolf Trap turns 43.

Event Details:
No tickets needed for this event. Start your day at the green canopy at the main gate area of the Filene Center and pick up the map/schedule of events and/or sign-in for one of the volunteer activities. Parking will be available in the main parking lots. Handicap accessible parking will be available near the main gate of the Filene Center.

Schedule of Events:
Backstage Tours: 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m.
A behind the scenes look at the world-class Filene Center. Stand on the stage and learn about the performer experience and theater operations. Tour length: one hour. Meet at Stage Door.

Inspire: 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m.
One person has the power to inspire others - through philanthropy, performance, or simple everyday acts. Learn about the person that inspired others to create a park for the performing arts and how we can all inspire each other. Program length: 30 minutes. Meet at the Ranger Station.

Musical Performances: Times TBA.
Enjoy performances from local youth at the Meadow Pavilion.

Musical Instrument Petting Zoo: Available all day near the Meadow Kiosk. Touch and learn about a variety of musical instruments.

Scavenger Hunt: Available all day throughout the park.
Each child will receive a "Passport to Wolf Trap" booklet. Kids stamp their passport as they explore the park and participate in the park-wide activities. Once their passport is full, each child received the official Wolf Trap Junior Ranger patch.

Self paced activities:
- Expanded exhibits about the park and its history will be placed throughout the park - map available at the main gate.
- Picnic areas will be open for use.

 

Volunteer Details
There will be gardening and landscaping projects throughout the day. Plant tree seedlings, create a native plant garden, assist with controlling invasive plants, and/or weed and clean-up landscape gardens throughout the park. Volunteer as well as participate in the fun activities at the anniversary event.

Time: Projects available from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Check in at the tent tent at the main gate of the Filene Center. You may work all day or part of the day. We ask that you commit to at least two hours. Last volunteer check in time 1 p.m..

Dress: Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy shoes, and hat. Bring your own insect repellent and sunscreen.

Age: Minimum age is 13. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Park will provide: water, healthy snacks, work gloves, trash bags, and needed tools. To thank the volunteers, everyone will receive a Wolf Trap water bottle.
