Seneca Falls, NY - In honor of National Public Lands Day, Women's Rights National Historical Park is pleased to invite the public to attend a special event sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service. On Saturday, September 24, from 12 - 4 p.m. visitors can join Park Rangers Andrea DeKoter and Meghan Barbay at Forest Field Day as they celebrate the grand opening of Caywood Point, site of Fossenvue, a summer camp frequented by early women's rights supporters.

In the late nineteenth century, suffragists including Elizabeth Smith Miller, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony gathered at Fossenvue on Seneca Lake to enjoy the outdoors and discuss philosophy and art. On September 24, visitors will have the opportunity to walk in their footsteps and see the recently renovated Queen's Castle, the only surviving structure from the camp. From 12 - 4 p.m. Park Ranger DeKoter will be at the Queen's Castle to explain what role this historic building played in the women's rights movement.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience first-hand the fun-filled games and activities campers enjoyed at Fossenvue. Join Park Ranger Barbay from 1 - 4 p.m. for potato sack races, croquet, arts and crafts, and demonstrations of nineteenth-century games and toys. Prizes and souvenirs will be available for kids of all ages. Other programs, including a bat exhibit, tree identification, and animal tracking, will also be available.

"Women's Rights National Historical Park is honored to join the U.S. Forest Service in celebrating Forest Field Day and the grand opening of Caywood Point. This is a site rich in both cultural and natural history, and we are pleased to play a role in its interpretation," said Tammy Duchesne, Superintendent of Women's Rights National Historical Park.

Caywood Point is located north of Hector on Route 414. For directions or more information, please contact Andrea DeKoter or Meghan Barbay at (315) 568-0024.
