New Hours of Operation and Upcoming Programs Announced

Seneca Falls, NY—Women's Rights National Historical Park announces that new hours and days of operation for the park's Visitor Center will begin on December 29, 2013. The Visitor Center, located at 136 Fall Street, will be open Wednesday-Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.The Visitor Center will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Also, the park will be closed in observation of the following winter holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents' Day.

There are many opportunities for visitors to learn more about the history of the site, including a park film and exhibits at the Visitor Center. Park rangers offer tours of the Wesleyan Chapel daily at 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. and of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton House at 11:15 a.m. & 2:15 p.m. In addition, the park will host several special events and programs during the winter months. Upcoming programs and events include:

·     Native American History Month lecture by Dr. Thomas Lappas entitled,"'For God and Home and Native Land': Haudenosaunee and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union," at 6:00 p.m. in the Visitor Center. 

·  "Sentiments & Declarations" lecture series, co-hosted with Hobart and William Smith Colleges, will continue with a lecture by Dr. Jessica Hayes-Conroy on November 21, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. in the Visitor Center. Additional lectures will be held on February 20th, March 27th, and April 24th, 2014.

·     The Winter Film Festival will be held every Friday and Saturday at noon in the Visitor Center through the month of April. The schedule of films can be found on the park website.

"My staff and I look forward to celebrating the Seneca Falls' "It's a Wonderful Life" Festival on December 14th & 15th," said Superintendent Ami Ghazala. "It is a great opportunity for the park to join the town and focus on the iconic film whose powerful messages have withstood the test of time. The enduring connection of Seneca Falls as a possible source of inspiration for the film is a 'wonderful' legacy to cherish."  Arts & Crafts activities will be held throughout the festival. The park will screen the film, "The Bishop's Wife," starring Cary Grant and Karolyn Grimes who also played Zuzu Bailey in the film "It's a Wonderful Life.
