Women’s Rights NHP Invites the Public to Celebrate the National Park Service’s 96th Birthday

Women's Rights National Historical Park invites the public to attend special programs at the park on Saturday, August 25, to help celebrate "Founder's Day."On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson approved the Organic Act, creating the National Park Service.

The park will offer three programs to celebrate Founder's Day.At 10:30 am, the park will offer a children's program entitled "Color My Park!" Young visitors will be able to create a chalk mural on sidewalk stones, depicting their favorite national park and expressing what they like about it.Prizes will be awarded for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place. The program will meet directly behind the visitor center.

At 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm, a park ranger will offer a walking tour of the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, entitled "What's In a National Park?" During the tour a ranger will discuss how all National Parks are "parks" and will explore the different roles the National Parks play in our communities and in our nation during a 45- minute walking tour along the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. This program will meet in the park's visitor center.

A self-guided activity for children entitled "Explore Your Rights Scavenger Hunt" will allow children of all ages to search for scavenger hunt answers in the park's museum.Prizes will be awarded for those who complete the activity.

The Organic Act charged the National Park Service "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."

In 1980 Women's Rights National Historical Park was established to commemorate and preserve the story of the First Women's Rights Convention and the historical structures associated with it in Seneca Falls and Waterloo, New York. All public tours and programs are free and open to the public.
