Library of Congress Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-97) was an educator and an author. She wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1791 and it was published in 1792. Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and other women's rights leader's viewed the writings of Wollstonecraft as one of the first attempts by women to assert their equality.
