2013 Special Events
In addition to regularly scheduled programs, each year the park hosts a series of events at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site.
Summer Camp: June and July Summer Camp Leaders/ Instructors needed for the William Howard Taft Summer Camp. This program is part of the parks outreach in the community.
Fourth of July Ice Cream Social & Concert: July 4th Celebrate the 4th of July at the Taft Birth home. The event time is 10 - 1 pm. There will be plenty of ice cream.
Constitution Day on Fountain Square: Monday, September 16th There will be different stations step up around Fountain Square to help children learn more about their Constitution. The booths that will be setup consists of the voting and signing of our Nations Constitution.
Halloween Program: October Halloween Open house at the Taft Historic Site. There will be a candlelight tour of the birth home and Victorian games along with ghost stories at the Taft Education Center.
Christmas Celebration Begins: November 29th - December 31.
William Howard Taft National Historic Site will celebrate a Victorian Christmas with free events starting the day after Thanksgiving and ending on December 31. The house where William Howard Taft was born and grew up will be decorated to reflect the mid-Victorian period from November 29 through December 31, 2013.
On Saturday December 14, children are invited to stop at the site from 11:00 am - 3:30 pm. During this time children can learn about the traditions of Christmas and make holiday crafts to take home. Father Christmas will also visit the site and children will receive a free photograph taken with him. The program is free and open to the public.
The celebration will culminate on December 31 when the Friends of the William Howard Taft Birthplace host the annual New Year's Open House. From 1-4 p.m., the public is invited to visit the house and enjoy holiday refreshments, just as the guests to the Taft house would have done in the 1850's at the birthplace of the nation's 27th President. William Howard Taft National Historic Site is located at 2038 Auburn Avenue and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Days.
