HISTORIC JOHN RAY HOUSE CLOSED DURING ROOF REPLACEMENT
The Ray House will be closed for tours while a new cedar shake roof is installed. We regret the inconvenience, but the work is necessary for the preservation of the structure. The work is scheduled to begin July 7 and continue for three to four weeks.
The "Ray House Jamboree," a bluegrass, Civil War and old-time music festival, will be held on the lawn in front of the historic Ray House (Tour Stop Number 2), featuring several local groups performing traditional Ozark music. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs.
The schedule of performers is as follows:
3:00 p.m. Hawthorne Old Time Music (Randy Corbin and Elaine Smith)
4:15 p.m. Rowan's Crossing (James and Jennifer Bennett)
5:30 p.m. Back Porch Players (Paul and Carol Stickley, et al)
6:45 p.m Stringfield (Victoria Johnson, Jeremy Myers, and David Greathouse)
Janet Caudillo will be doing period spinning demonstrations, the Ray House will be open for tours with park volunteers dressed in period clothing, the 8th Missouri Infantry will have a Civil War military camp set up behind the Ray House, and there will be displays of period clothing and artifacts. The evening will end with a cannon firing at 8 p.m.
In addition, Easterly's Chuckwagon (Mike Easterly) will be serving a delicious barbeque dinner from 5-7 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are available in advance at www.wilsonscreek.com or by calling the Wilson's Creek National Battlefield Foundation office at 417-864-3041. A donation is required.
