A sticky, yellow juice oozes out of the Bluestem Pricklypoppy when the stem is broken.  Alkaloids in this sap and seeds are toxic.  The Lakota used the yellow sap as a dye for arrow shafts.

Did You Know?
Littleleaf pussytoes can vary in color by elevation. Generally at higher elevations the plant has deeply pink bracts. At lower elevations they are more commonly white.
