Being a plant of the Southwest, Mountain Mahogany is generally found only in the southern end of the Black Hills. The seasoned wood is very hard and makes good firewood.

Littleleaf pussytoes can vary in color by elevation. Generally at higher elevations the plant has deeply pink bracts. At lower elevations they are more commonly white.
